Jail Based Substance Abuse Program Essays - Penology,

Prison Based Substance Abuse Program Prison BASED SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT PROGRAM Substance misuse and habit have changed the idea of America's jail populace. Liquor, tranquilize abusers, addicts, and the individuals who sell unlawful medications command state, government detainment facilities and neighborhood correctional facilities. Wrongdoing and liquor and medication misuse go connected at the hip. A great part of the development in America's detainee populace is because of imprisonment of medication law violators. With suitable treatment for substance misuse and dependence, restoration is workable for a large number of the present detainees. When they leave jail they additionally need proceeding aftercare, instruction and employment preparing. Without treatment and preparing, most will submit more wrongdoings, get captured and return to jail. The decision is our own just as theirs. Having a gathering directing project comprising of 8 to 10 individuals and one or increasingly prepared Chemical Dependency Counselors would be gainful. The motivation behind the bunch is to give a sheltered just as a moving spot in which to chip away at individual and relational concerns. Individuals can examine their impression of one another and get input on how others see them. Setting up trust permits bunch individuals to talk transparently and sincerely. Gatherings offer chance to explore different avenues regarding various methods of speaking with others and a sheltered spot to attempt new practices. They can give backing and understanding, offer proposals, or delicately go up against the individual. Advocate furthermore, bunch individuals cooperate to set up trust and promise to the gathering. Those who advantage most are generally the individuals who take a functioning part all the while and who permit themselves to give and get legit, supportive input. Coming up next is data that I acquired from Lt. Kevin Peters at California Establishment for Men. In 1980 the State of California had 12 detainment facilities with 32,000 prisoners. Today California has 33 detainment facilities with 144,00 prisoners. California Institution for Men (CIM) houses 6,500 of these prisoners. Over 90% of the prisoners at CIM are being imprisoned because of related liquor and medication violations. The normal sentence is 41.4 months with detainees serving just 21.3 months. One detainee costs citizens roughly $232,291.00 for their 21.3 month imprisonment, $150,000 for capture and conviction, another $45,000 for extra bed and $21,470 for lodging every year. CIM says 59% to 69% of the detainees are recurrent guilty parties and have spent time in jail previously. CIM feels it is only a spot to house detainees and that there is no structure for restoration. It isn't their business to restore. CIM additionally expresses that the prisoners have access to programs, for example, AA, NA and Control of Substance Abuse for Mental Health. CIM feels that if a detainee needs to go to a program, it is accessible. It isn't obligatory for them to join in and they can't compel a prisoner to do as such. The longing must be there for the prisoner. Most prisoners don't go to these projects since they are not obligatory. The greater part of the detainees dropped out of school because of substance misuse, the major contributing element with respect to their absence of enthusiasm for training. Also, numerous prisoners originate from destitution foundations. For what reason do we keep on discharging detainees back to the network despite everything utilizing and still managing, to carry out further wrongdoings and undermine our prosperity and that of our youngsters without rewarding the issue for which they went to jail? I feel that jails would be a decent spot to build up the restoration of guilty parties with substance misuse. The jail framework needs to take on a required substance misuse treatment program for all detainees imprisoned because of wrongdoings identified with sedate use. Proceeding to store and manufacture more detainment facilities for lodging guilty parties of medication misuse are a misuse of citizens' cash. Our detainment facilities are full what's more, most of detainees get early discharges because of the issue of congestion, just to go out and carry out more wrongdoings. Illicit drug use is an incessant malady. We treat individuals who have malignancy, heart issues or some other sickness. In spite of the fact that, the addicts have carried out a wrongdoing, it doesn't change the way that they have a sickness, we should likewise treat the individuals who have the malady of habit. Investigating the diverse helpful network tranquilize misuse treatment in penitentiaries all through the nation, we may ask, for what reason haven't all detainment facilities received a program to treat prisoners with a fixation on a compulsory premise? We should focus on these foundations in light of the fact that they house the guardians of kids and their kid's future. In the event that the guardians are setting the model that medications are alright and are doing time and rehashed time, at that point what sort of future is in

Biological Beginnings Essays

Natural Beginnings Essays Natural Beginnings Paper Natural Beginnings Paper The natural beginnings of human can be viewed as intricate. It has different noteworthy branches that can be interrelated to each other. These therefore decide or exceptionally order one from another as far as mental, physiological, and social viewpoints. This is likewise the region where sicknesses exude, similar to disease, Alzheimer’s, psychosomatic ailments, and such. These â€Å"mechanisms† are transmitted from age to the following through the standards of hereditary qualities. Each individual contains â€Å"genetic codes† acquired from their separate guardians. These codes are one of a kind starting with one individual then onto the next, and in this manner give distinctive individual qualities and attributes. A few qualities can cover however none would be actually equivalent to of the other individual. Hereditary establishments, one of the parts of the natural beginnings, included a few sub-classes, for example, the qualities, meiosis and mitosis, standards of hereditary qualities, conduct hereditary qualities, atomic hereditary qualities, and quality connected irregularities and chromosomes (Santrock 2005). The start of life begins from the unification of the sperm and of the egg cell. The joined cell contains the data â€Å"genetic codes† of what the individual becomes. During the origination would and in the wake of conceiving an offspring, these phones would in the long run reproduce to an amount of around trillion cells, each containing the equivalent â€Å"code† of the first cell. The core of each human cell is contained around 46 chromosomes, a threadlike figure that comprises of 23 sets wherein one individual from each pair has a place separately with the parent. Every chromosome contains an exceptional substance called the DNA or the Deoxyribonucleic corrosive. This DNA inevitably conveys the hereditary code or data. Qualities considered as the unit of genetic information or data has a short section structure involved DNA’s. Moreover, the qualities fills in as a relative reference or diagram to different cells to empower self-multiplication and to make significant proteins to support life. The Meiosis and Mitosis fills in as the procedures on the natural viewpoint to completely fathom how and what are the elements of the qualities. Mitosis is the way toward separating cells whereupon the cell material is reproduced or copied with the goal that two girl cells would be shaped. The chromosomes are likewise copied before the cells are partitioned so the right number of chromosomes would be the equivalent. Every one of the human being’s body cell has 46 separate chromosomes or 23 sets. The pair involved 22 body or autosomal sets and the last pair included the sex chromosomes. These girl cells likewise have 23 sets of chromosomes like the first cell. In Meiosis, the sex cells are partitioned into two, along these lines delivering 4 little girl cells. It is the way toward diminishing the quantity of chromosomes in a sex cell to half of the first amount. The decrease division is one period of the Meiosis procedure and when finished every cell delivered contains 23 chromosomes, whereupon these will in the long run be added to the zygote for a sum of 23 sets of chromosomes or 46 individual chromosomes. The zygote is the single cell framed when the ovum is prepared by the sperm cell, the generation procedure. This zygote contains 23 sets of chromosomes or 46 individual chromosomes. There are a few hereditary rules that have been found, for example, the sex-connected qualities, the prevailing and latent qualities, the acquired polygenically attributes, canalization, and response run. The sex-connected qualities allude to the presence of two sex cells out of the 46 chromosomes in a person. Found in 1920, the female has two X chromosomes while the male has a X and Y-chromosomes. This will thus decide the subsequent sex of the new conceived. The predominant latent qualities rule portrayed the applicable conduct of two qualities; the prevailing quality for the most part supersedes the passive quality. The passive quality applies its capacity if the two qualities are latent. The attributes or qualities being conveyed by the prevailing quality (earthy colored eyes, dimples, and so on.) would be given to the kid if the joined qualities are predominant passive sort. The Polygenic legacy is the guideline in hereditary qualities wherein the qualities joins to shape or produce a particular trademark. Just a couple of mental qualities are framed from single cell, the rest are the aftereffects of the collaboration of various qualities from each other.

Enrone Leadership failure free essay sample

Enron stands apart as probably the greatest disappointment in business history. In 2001, Americans were horrified to learn of the dishonest practices completed by pioneers and different representatives of Enron. Enron utilized different techniques for misdirection to show up more gainful than it truly was, including through making off-the-book elements to which Enron moved its considerable obligation. (Jennings, 2005). Enron implosion took the world capital markets and Shake the speculator trust in bookkeeping and money related revealing. It even caused the world’s prestigious global bookkeeping firm Arthur Andersen to crumple. The most significant guardian couldn't anticipate Enron’s breakdown before it happened. It was then found that Enron senior administration had utilized complex imaginative bookkeeping strategies to control the company’s money related figures and subsequently support up the budgetary presentation. (Cruver, July 2002) This exposition investigates the inward culture and authority practices of its top administration. It remembers a specific accentuation for magnetic administration, in individuals like Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling. The convincing vision of these pioneers, communicated in an enrollment framework intended to actuate a procedure of change and the advancement of culture by similarity and punishing of difference. Presentation Enron failed and vanished thirteen years prior, the effects it has made on the moral principles never blurred. It took Enron 16 years to go from around ten billion dollar advantages for more than sixty-five billion dollar resources, and took twenty-four days to fail. Enron, which once positioned as the seventh-biggest organization on the Fortune 500 and positioned as the 6th biggest vitality organization on the planet, on December 2, 2001, petitioned for financial protection insurance in the greatest instance of chapter 11 in the United States up to that point. By November 2001, the company’s stock, which once topped at $90, was down to under $1. It was a fiasco for the a large number of representatives and financial specialists. Representatives lost their positions and annuities, and financial specialists lost billions of dollars. Enron’s morals code depended on regard, trustworthiness, correspondence, and greatness. Regard. We treat others, as we might want to be dealt with ourselves. We don't endure injurious or ill bred treatment. Heartlessness, hardness and self-importance don't have a place here. (executive, 2000) Integrity. We work with clients and prospects straightforwardly, genuinely and earnestly. At the point when we state we will accomplish something, we will do it; when we state we can't or won't accomplish something, at that point we won’t do it. We have a commitment to convey. Here we set aside the effort to converse with each other and to tune in. We accept that data is intended to move and that data moves individuals. (director, 2000) Excellence. We are happy with nothing not exactly the absolute best in all that we do. We will keep on increasing current standards for everybody. The extraordinary fun here will be for us all to find exactly how great we can truly be (administrator, 2000) According to this set of accepted rules and Ken Lay’s proclaimed responsibility to business morals, how could Enron have fell so significantly, going from announced incomes of $101 billion out of 2000 and around $140 billion during the initial 75% of 2001 to opting for non-payment in December 2001? The response to this inquiry is by all accounts established in a mix of the disappointment of top administration, a corporate culture that upheld dishonest conduct, and the complicity of the speculation banking network. (administrator, 2000) The Enron History Enron found in 1985 as a pipeline organization, there power provider to utilities. Enron business start through the merger of Houston Natural Gas. In the next years, Enron improve rapidly and got one of the fruitful vitality merchant on the planet. Enron recognized as a one of the world’s driving power, gaseous petrol, and correspondences association. (The Crooked E: The Unshredded Truth About Enron, January 5, 2003) In the next years, with the expansion of rivalry, Enron chose to utilize enhancement and global speculation to keep its market position. As a matter of fact, these exercises presented to Enron a startling enormous measure of misfortunes instead of benefits. In 1999, after an attack into fiber optics and the broadband market, which was an off-base choice once more, Enron endured an excessive number of significant misfortunes and started draining rapidly. Be that as it may, Enron had never pronounced any data about its misfortunes until October 2001. Other than controlled the budget summaries, Enron never referenced the dangers, which it ought to uncover to its financial specialists. In actuality, the officials of Enron revealed an extraordinary profit conjecture through the media and urged speculators to buy Enron’s stocks. They additionally recommended their representatives put their benefits in Enron’s stock or investment opportunities. Arthur Andersen, the review organization for Enron, helped Enron shroud these cheats for a long time. Each time when investigators or Enron’s representatives communicated their questions about Enron’s money related condition, Enron would attempt to keep them peaceful and terminated them later. In the mean time, top official stole. The officials likewise drove up the stock cost and put a lot of cash into their own pockets through exchanging stocks. (Mclean, 2004) Because of those fakes, from 1998 to 2001, the stock cost crested at $90 US. â€Å"By December 2000, Enron’s shares were selling for $85 every, its representatives had their 401(k)s vigorously put resources into Enron Stock, and the organization [had] a coordinating project where it contribute also portions of stock to reserve funds and retirement plans when workers decided to support them with Enron stock† Therefore, the two financial specialists and workers experienced intensely this calamity when Enron crumbled. Issues started ejecting in 2001. Jeffrey Skilling, the CEO, left in August of 2001. At that point in October 2001, Enron detailed lost million $. Following that, Chief money related official Andrew Fastow was supplanted, and the Securities and Exchange Commission started researching the Enron. After around one month, in late November, the SEC found under the table elements and exaggerated incomes, and afterward the company’s stock was down to under $1 US. At long last, on December 2, 2001, Enron declared financial insolvency assurance. Financial specialists lost billions of dollars. (The Crooked E: The Unshredded Truth About Enron, January 5, 2003) The Enron 1985 | To be the principal flammable gas organization in North America 1990 | To be the main gaseous petrol organization on the planet 1995 | To be best performing vitality organization on the planet 2001 | To be the best performing organization on the planet 2002 | To recoup from chapter 11 The Enron Culture Enron’s corporate culture created inside its office during the potent days of its prosperity and has uncovered numerous indications of how things could turn out badly. When all is said in done, the top administration created haughtiness because of its prosperity, the tone was set at the top and it permeated to the lower level lastly turned into a culture of the partnership. Enron’s top administration, Kenneth Lay and it partners gave its administrators opportunity to seek after the corporate objective and left them to be and was possibly addressed when objectives were not met. (William, 2002) â€Å"These controls were not thorough enough, usage and oversight was deficient at Management and Board levels, as nobody assumed liability for oversight; controls were not execute appropriately and auxiliary deformities got evident after some time. Nobody in Management tended to issues as it emerged or carried it to the Board’s attention† Skilling founded the exhibition survey advisory group which known as the harshest worker positioning framework as partners needed to â€Å"do deals† and present profit on be positioned high. Mystery became request of the day for a considerable lot of the company’s exchanging just as disclosures†. (Thomas, 2002) Who to fault for Unethical Leadership Enron top administrators lay and Skilling are mostly to fault for the Enron breakdown. As unnecessary pioneers, Lay and Skilling were doubtlessly ready to lead a compelling and effective Enron, however they needed restraint and thusly followed a way down a tricky and vile incline to fiasco. They cultivated a serious domain that squashed any little innovativeness representatives had and had them continually stressed over the perpetual quality of their activity. Not exclusively were Enron’s top officials extreme, they were additionally downright harmful. Lay glaringly misled representatives, sending messages of bogus expectation. He likewise conned his workers into keeping all stocks they held in the organization at the same time he sold a large number of dollars’ worth of his stock. As representatives of Enron, many were getting by. Many shut themselves off from the articulate debasement they saw. Standing up would doubtlessly cost them their employments and potentially their childs school finance. (Cruver, July 2002) Looking back, many would need to state they would have been the informants, they would have stood up, however actually, I don't figure I would have. Possibly on the off chance that I didn't have a family or anything to live for I would, however I do. It might be childish, however I accept that a lot of was in question. I likewise find that the reviewing firm Arthur Anderson played a key and urgent job in this breakdown. Requesting all Enron related reports to wipe after the embarrassment shows. Deficiency of Arthur Andersen’s There is no single response for who is liable for Enron defeat. There are a wide range of individuals and gatherings at vault every single changing degree. Administrator and Jeffery Skilling are definitely to blame, however I don't figure you can censure a man for acting in his own eventual benefits and for doing what he â€Å"thought† would ensure a the association. Be that as it may, you can accuse an association whose sole employment is to review the books, for botching the inspecting of the books. Consequently, I put Art

Is The School Serving A Nutritionally Balanced Meal The Key To Curing

Is The School Serving A Nutritionally Balanced Meal The Key To Curing Is The School Serving A Nutritionally Balanced Meal The Key To Curing Childhood Obesity Discuss â€" Essay Example > From time to time, there are television news flashes of emaciated children in countries such as Ethiopia and Kenya. These images are sometimes haunting and highlight the utter helplessness of those on the frontlines who may have very little to offer to these poor souls. Whereas these poor people in Africa and elsewhere become emaciated because of lack of food, in affluent countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom, some people actually starve themselves in order to conform to the thin image that is supposed to portray beauty. For many years, there have been concerns that the media’s emphasis on the thin image has been luring too many young people, especially girls, towards harming themselves through forced dieting, leading to the possibility of their becoming anorexic. As it turns out, it is only a small minority of these young people who are paying attention to the images of thinness and beauty. For the vast majority the taste of junk food is too difficult to re sist and their easy availability at home and in school has resulted in increasingly expanding waistlines even among very young children. In the United Kingdom and in other affluent societies, as the attention of the society has turned towards obese children and their problems, the question has arisen as to whether the introduction of healthy meals in the school system will help cure childhood obesity. As this paper argues, there is a very high likelihood that wholesale implementation of healthy nutrition programs in schools will help cure obesity, provided that parents do their part on the home front to control what children eat and to provide healthy food rather than allow the eating of junk food to undo any benefits that the children might be gaining through school nutritional programs. Over the past fifteen years, in the United Kingdom, obesity has been increasing among both adults and children. It is not in the UK alone, however, where this trend has been observed. One of the main reasons attention has been centered of late on children is that childhood obesity is linked with adult obesity. In other words, if a child is fat it is likely that he or she will grow into a fat person and experience all the associated negative elements attached to this condition, including the possibility of health problems. Factors that have been linked with obesity risk among children include “parental obesity, low socio-economic status and early maturation (Parsons et al, 1999; cited in McCarthy, Jarrett, Crawley 2001 p. 902). While children cannot choose their parents or influence the socio-economic status of their parents to any great degree there is another obesity-related element for which there could be some meaningful interventions. Regarding the prevalence of obesity among children, even at the age of 5, research indicates that “Problems include low fruit and vegetable consumption, high consumption of soft drinks and the skipping of breakfast. The study also i ndicates that ‘body dissatisfaction’ and dieting are common and that a substantial number of young people in all countries do not meet the current recommended guidelines for physical activity” (Mikkelsen, Rasmussen Young 2005 p. 7).

The, Frankfurt, And Wolf Are All Compatibilists. They Hold...

Stace, Frankfurt, and Wolf are all compatibilists. They hold that free will and determinism are compatible. In this paper, first I will define and explain key terms determinism, free will, and compatibilism. Next, I will discuss the individual views of each compatibilist and how they object to parts of determinism; then compare and contrast their views. They all believe in parts of determinism and parts of free will, even though determinism holds we are not morally responsible and free will holds we are morally responsible; thus, they are technically incompatible. This concept will be explained in this paper. The first term relevant to this paper is determinism. (Hard) Determinism is the philosophical idea that every action and decision a†¦show more content†¦As a result, Jack gets little sleep and performs poorly on his test. Free will says that Jack is responsible for his decision to go out and, therefore, responsible for doing poorly on his test. The third key term is compatibilism. Compatibilism, also known as soft determinism, is the belief that free will and determinism can coexist. More specifically, while external forces, such as upbringing, and internal forces, such as personal desires, have influence on one’s actions, one still has the ability to make the choice (holding that they are not being physically forced to do something). For example, Jane is invited to a party. Her parents taught her that drinking has many negative repercussions but on the other hand, Jane has been overwhelmed and kind of wants to go out. Jane chooses to not attend the party. According t o compatibilism, while Jane’s decision was influenced by her upbringing and by her personal desire, she still ultimately had the freedom of choice and chose to not go. Now, the first compatibilist I am going to discuss, W.T. Stace, believed that while many of our actions are free, our decisions are not uncaused. Stace holds that we are generally in control of our decisions, unless forced to do something, and are consequently in charge of our chain of actions. To put a term to this, when a person’s actions stem from their desires the act is free and this is called freedom of action. Essay Date Rape - 890 Words

Date Rape When people hear the word rape they might imagine a stranger leaping out from the shadows of a dark alley and attacking someone. Although this is partly true, most rapes are committed by people who know their victims. When intercourse is unwanted and forced upon by someone you know, it is known as â€Å" date rape.† It occurs daily and is prevalent on virtually all college campuses across the nation and in cities all over the world. Date rape generally occurs when a man is alone with a woman. Although it has been reported that men have been raped by women, it is much more common for a woman to be raped by a man. There are several reasons why date rape might occur. Sometimes a man thinks that a woman â€Å"owes† him†¦show more content†¦The man may feel angry or rejected if this happens, and may want sexual gratification anyway. The result can be rape. If only the woman is drunk, the man may see this as an opportunity to take advantage of her because she will most likely be less defensive towards him. Some men plan the act of rape, and may use alcohol or drugs in order to lesson a womans judgment. In some cases, someone may slip a drug into a womens drink, causing her to forget what had happened the night before when she wakes the next morning. If a woman is intoxicated and has seemingly consented to having sex, she may feel the next morning that she only acted that way because of the her condition at the time. In a court of law, the man would be found guilty of rape. Even if substance use is not involved, another factor is mixed signals between the man and the woman. If a woman acts in a friendly or outgoing manner towards a man, he may interpret this as a proposal to have sex. Even if a woman says â€Å"no,† the man may think that she is playing hard to get, that the â€Å"no† really means â€Å"yes.† Some men are sexually aroused when a woman struggles, and may continue in an aggressive no matter what she says to him. This can occur to people who have just met, those who are dating, or even to people who have known each other for years. There is a thin line between what is known as mutual consent and date rape. Contemporary Business Organizations various-Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Contemporary Business Organizations Various? Answer: Introducation The contemporary business organizations have to maintain various aspects of business at one time to meet the diversified challenges being faced by them in the present business scenario (Grant et al., 2014). Leadership plays a key role in driving the organizational success by overcoming various organizational challenges. According to Marc Lavine, leaderships have to play diversified and complex roles in meeting all the aspects of the contemporary business organizations (Kinicki Kreitner, 2012). Competing value framework is being used to identify the various challenges being faced by the contemporary leaders. According to this theory, leaderships mainly have to maintain four major aspects in the modern business organizations (Wiewiora et al., 2013). It includes maintaining the human resources, effective internal communication, proper allocation of resources and achieving the organizational goals and objectives. In a few cases, it poses as a challenge for the leaders due to the reason that they face paradox in maintaining all the above said aspects at a single time (Van Wart, 2013). The decision cause contradiction among the stakeholders associated with the organizations. For instance, giving more effort on achieving the organizational objectives may have adverse effect on the human resource management in the organization. Employees may get de-motivated and lower morale due to having high stress and pressure in the organizations (Van Wart, 2013). Moreover, leaders also have the responsibility of implementing effective communication process in the internal organization in order to enhance the communication process between the upper management and the employees. The modern day leaders also have to face rapid change in the technologies and taste and preference of the marketing due to the era of globalization. Thus, they have to change their style of leadership and organizing the business operat ions more rapidly than ever. This is causing stress in effective management of the contemporary business organizations. According to Marc Lavine, it is the responsibility of the leadership roles to maintain the optimal equilibrium between the older and new theory and activities in the organizations. The optimal equilibrium between these two will help to gain organizational success (Grant et al., 2014). According to him, complexity and paradox will be inevitable of the contemporary leaders and thus they have to positively react to these complexities to drive the change in the organizations. They should be more flexible in accepting the diversified issues related with the present business scenario. Thus, from this literature, it is evident that the modern business organizations have to face complex situations as well as their leaders (Wiewiora et al., 2013). They have to maintain all the four aspects being stated in the competing value framework. Thus, it is one of the prime issues being identified from this literature that managing all these diversified complexities is deterring the contemporary leader s in giving effective effort in a particular aspect. In the present business scenario, the more flexible will be the leaders regarding the business complexities, the more will be their effectiveness in driving the organizational success. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens Essay Example For Students

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens Essay A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens contained many themes that are practiced throughout the book. Two of these themes are altruism and resurrection. The characters Madame Defarge and Sydney Carton are used to exemplify these themes. Sydney Carton demonstrated an altruistic nature while Madame Defarge had a self-seeking disposition. Carton displayed his charitable nature when Lucie was the object of Mr. Stryvers affection. When Mr. Stryver asked for Sydneys approval, he said that he supported him in his pursuit even though Carton held a secret passion for Lucie. Before Darnays marriage to Lucie, Sydney told Lucie of his hopeless devotion to her and described himself to be undeserving. He also volunteered to embrace any sacrifice for her and those dear to her. Cartons altruism culminated when Darnay became incarcerated in La Force. When Mr. Lorry told Sydney of Darnays predicament, he traveled to France to offer his help. Carton fulfilled his offer to Lucie when he drugged Darnay and took his place in the impending death sentence. Madame Defarge, imbued from her childhood with a brooding sense of wrong, had no traditional morals in her and is the opposite of Carton. In Dickens vivid description of her, she is described as a tigress and absolutely without pity. Her hatred of the Evremondes had grown so profusely that she intended to execute Lucie and her daughter in addition to Darnay who had committed no crime but was to die for the sins of his forefathers. In addition, she ignored her husbands profound pleas to spare Dr. Manette and exclaimed to herself, No, I cannot spare him! Resurrection embodies both Sydney Carton and Therese Defarge. Sydney is resurrected from a desolate life of working under Stryver to sacrificing his life for the sake of Darnay. In the beginning of the story, Sydney is described as a lowly jackal in service to Stryver. He drinks excessively with Stryver and is careless in regard to clothing and speech. After Darnays trial, Carton is described as so careless as to be almost insolent. The trial is followed by a drink with Charles. After Carton has traveled to France, Carton has abstained from drinking and has liberated himself from Stryver. Before his death, he says, I am the Resurrection and the Life, saith the Lord: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die, which exemplifies his own belief in his resurrection. At his death his face was described as sublime and prophetic. Madame Defarge is resurrected along with the millions of other peasants in the revolution. They restore the power of the people and Madame Defarge is prominent among them. She is now able to take her revenge on the Evremondes. She accomplishes this by her testimony that sends Darnay to jail and attempting to send Lucie and her daughter to jail. Sydney was at first thought to be a careless wretch but proved that he was a kind caring person. His last words sum up his character, It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known. Madame Defarge had been imbued so replete with hatred for the aristocrat class and especially the Evremondes that it was not in her nature to have altruistic characteristics. Similarly, her resurrection was also a resurrection of hatred.

Applications, Edits, and What to Remember During the Application Process

With so many colleges and universities available to apply to, students can easily find themselves overwhelmed throughout the application process. Aside from the stress and time commitment to finishing your applications, figuring out which schools are a good fit for you is a tough conclusion to come to. So before you get started on the long journey that is applying to college, we asked some of our Emerson users what they would change about the process to help you understand different perspectives: mtanenbaum - If I had to change something about my application process, it would honestly be that I wish Id applied to more, and more varied, schools. I regret not applying to places more widely. At the end of it all, what you really want more than anything is a choice. If you dont apply to enough schools, you may not have one. This year was a particularly difficult one, and I know of many people who were boxed into going to schools that they never really wanted to go to. That said, they are great schools and Im sure theyll have a great time, but no one should start their college experience by griping about how their school wasnt their first choice. So apply to more places (assuming you have the means to). Apply to a bunch of places. Be sure to apply to a good amount of safeties, and theres absolutely no harm in applying to a reach or two. You never know what could happen! Oh, one more thing: apply to as many places as you can early action. Just knowing where youre at before you send in the remainder of your applications is a godsend. You can really prioritize that way, and you can laugh maniacally as everyone else is even more stressed out as you, but still cry hysterically because youre really stressed out, too. Suchita - Edit! In hindsight, I should have other people (i.e. teachers) give my essays a look. Its really easy, even for the best of writers, to make stupid mistakes when theyre really stressed about college apps/exams which are often happening at the same time. A second opinion on your essays might also take you in a different direction with your topic, one that is perhaps not as commonly done. No matter how unique you think you are with stuff, chances are, its been done a lot, so get someone else to take a look and give you their thoughts! alysen_smith - I applied to eleven schools in all. I wanted to make absolutely sure that I was going to go to college and that I would have options to choose from once I had heard back from each school. But this was a huge waste of time and moneyrather than spending hours and application fees on several schools, take the time to select a few that are a perfect fit for you. tylah.silva - One of my biggest regrets is not applying for the honors program. I was so swamped that week at school that I did not feel up to writing a separate essay to get in. However, the honors program at my school offers a good scholarship that pretty much pays for most of my tuition. That would have really helped me and quelled some of the anxiety that I have over my finances. carad - I should have looked at more colleges. I looked at either reach schools or safeties. I am really happy with where I ended up, but I wish I had looked at more colleges. I had a really horrible guidance department that didnt help me find more places to look. I would have liked more help finding other colleges. emilyhillebrand - I wouldnt stress so much or start so late. Try to work on your application a little every day - set time aside for it like homework. And dont worry too much, because it will all work out, even if that seems impossible and even if you end up somewhere you had never pictured yourself before. matt.dinnocenzo - Do not apply to more than 5-6 schools. Youre only putting off the decision. Apply only to schools youd see yourself LOVING, cut the alternatives. Its easier and cheaper to decide before you apply.pan> - Think about financial aid. I know that I did not put enough focus on how difficult it would be to keep up with my tuition cost. Student debt is no joke. Want to apply to Emerson? World Response to Tiananmen Square Massacre essays

World Response to Tiananmen Square Massacre essays The Worlds Response to One of Chinas Most Embarrassing Events In the spring of 1989 in Beijing, China tens of thousands of student protesters lined the streets surrounding Tiananmen Square and filled the square itself. The reasons for their pro-democracy protests were numerous but the biggest issue on their agenda was the government and its communist party. The students believed their government was corrupt and wanted it replaced with a democratic and freely elected institution. On May 20th, 1989 martial law was ordered and after nearly two weeks of debating and negotiating between the government and students the protest came to a deadly conclusion beginning June 3rd, 1989. The world was watching live television broadcasts of the human rights violations carried out by the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) ordered by the government of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). The worlds reactions were wide ranging that had social, economical, and political impacts on China that are still felt today. In order to understand the events of Tiananmen and what made a government murder hundreds or possibly thousands of its own citizens, no one knows the exact number, we must look back into the history of China and her people. Chinas history is quite possibly the oldest on earth so we will be brief with the historical background, only so you can get an idea because this paper is not about the history of China. Because Chinas history is so vast and so many dynasties assumed power between 2200 BCE and 1911 CE, which is when dynasties went away and The Republic of China, was formed, we cannot cover them justly here without writing another research paper. So I will only list the dynasty with its ruling dates and some facts about the dynasty. Chinas history, as far as we can prove, starts at around 2200 BCE with the Xia dynasty. There is very little known about this dynasty except they d...

Interview with an entrepreneur Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Interview with an entrepreneur - Essay Example Confidence is always thought to be exuded by an entrepreneur in the face of high risks, uncertainty, and opportunities as well (Palich & Bagby, 1995, pp.425-438). Entrepreneur ends up assuming certain risks associated with failure or loss and creates a new business venture while at the same time insures other ventures by guaranteeing them specific returns (Sternberg & Wennekers, 2005, pp.193-203). Intrinsic personality traits have formed what might be commonly referred to as the big five personality dimensions of an entrepreneur. The five factor model of personality related to an entrepreneur takes a very descriptive view of these five dimensions considered being major dispositional factors relating to the personality of an entrepreneur factors (Burns, 2008, pp.34-43). These big five dimensions that characterize an entrepreneur are the need for achievement where the person has a huge ambition of meeting certain goals in life; need for independence or autonomy and by these the person creates a future for him or her; locus of control, which is normally internal in nature; risk taking where the entrepreneur is able to weigh risk magnitude against the potential returns based on opportunity and takes the latter; and self-efficacy in which he or she holds a high personal opinion and is not discouraged by rejection (Palich & Bagby, 1995, pp.425-438). Indeed, a set of personal attributes, principles, and beliefs influence the behaviour portrayed by the person and in turn lead him or her into creating and managing personal businesses (Sternberg & Wennekers, 2005, pp.193-203). These issues act as motivators for taking such a venture in their lives. The societal factors have also been viewed as having some influence on the choices made by an entrepreneur. The availability of opportunity in a certain setting could still be an important trigger for starting up a business venture (Shane, et al., 2003, pp.257–279). However, the entrepreneur is thought to have certain u nique opportunity identification and analytical skills that not all people have them. Thus, they are able to see opportunities in places where others consider as ‘deserts’. Trigger factors for entrepreneurial ventures have been pointed out by GEM as being opportunity and necessity (Ardichvili, et al., 2003, pp.105-123). Other scholars have had to use different approaches in describing what pushes one to become an entrepreneur. The rationale for having this interview with an entrepreneur, Mr Fahad Al-Hanaki the owner of Leham Company, is to establish the dimensions that result into creation and management of a business venture. This will be done by asking questions which are pertinent and related to how he feels about the business, the challenges experienced, and how he has managed to overcome them, and what he thinks is the future of his business. The extent of success the company owned by this interviewee is also another factor that influenced choosing him for this stu dy. 2.0 Evaluation of your entrepreneur Fahad was asked what the company is and the business it does. He outlined that Leham Company is for trading industry and also takes part in contracting. It is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It deals in many things

Developing a Teaching Capacity Enhancement Plan Essay

Developing a Teaching Capacity Enhancement Plan - Essay Example They will also be based on my choice of my aspired career as a long distance teacher. The choice of goal selection as an adult is further reinforced by the fact that Malcolm Knowles has identified that adults are goal oriented (Knowles, 1970) and therefore I will prefer to have clear goals for myself and then construct a clear set of goals for my adult students so that surety of transference and development of cognitive interest is assured. Goals For the teaching capacity enhancement plan, I have selected four basic goals which I plan to achieve in the next 12 months. The first and the foremost goal is to develop a capacity for learner centered teaching. This will be achieved by developing not only empathy but also detailed study and application of the theory of cognitivism. This theory will give me precise knowledge of the thought process behind behaviors and what goes on in the learners mind. (Schuman, 1996) Thus ultimately this goal will enhance my capabilities as a cognitive thin ker and teacher. The second is to enhance my capacities as a distance learning teacher and to develop ideas and processes around it. This goal also includes development of a plan and program which will ensure captivation of the students thus learners interest even when they are learning online and not directly. The third goal is also centered on the second goal and includes actions for modification and development of online degrees to provide life-long grounding for individuals who pursue them. Last but not the least, my final goal is to imbibe flexibility in myself as a long distance teacher and create a program which is flexible to ensure optimum learning for all those who value learning but cannot achieve it due to their commitments. This last goal will include both a personal development and grooming as an individual and will also include designing and implementation of a negotiated learning contract and program of study. Justification of selection and significance of goals (T-D EPLOY) Theory Multiple theories support my selection of goals and they are extremely significant for all educators, particularly those who wish to enter the adult education and distant learning dimension. Learner centered teaching is has been defined as the form of teaching which removes emphasis from the teacher and directs it towards the learner and the process of learning. As for developing my capabilities as a long distance teacher many theorists have encouraged the fact that lifelong learning opportunities must be encouraged and supported and Reushle in his doctoral thesis has been particularly vocal about the importance of both learning and its easy availability throughout life. (Reushle, 2005). He also believed that a transformative approach should be available for all online educators and my goal is to get that transformative approach to transform the lives of individuals I teach. The topic of distance-learning has been frequently debated by theorists and researchers. Marsha ll McLuhan (McLuhan, 1964) has described media as the carrier of the message from the transmitting source to the receiver. Thus media is often regarded as the extension of humans that allow for convenient affecting of people in the absence of a face to face contact. Therefore internet and video learning is a very strong medium to teach

The sole proprietor is obligated to cover any payments resulting from the loans but does not need to share the business profits with creditors. Typical examples of sole proprietorships include a local restaurant, a local construction firm, a barber shop, a laundry service, and a local clothing store. About 70 percent of all firms in the United States are sole proprietorship. But because these firms are relatively small, they generate less than 10 percent of all business revenue. Introduction of Business Environment Business environment is that which surrounds a business. It affects a business. It is dynamic in the sense it keeps changing. Since it is composed of many factors, it is important for a company to study and monitor its environment carefully. This is so that the business does not go wrong in its planning process for its current and future plans. The changes in the environment may be good or bad for a particular business. They can affect the business in a positive or a negative way. It becomes essential to monitor the environment, especially the external, uncontrollable part of the environment. Since there are innumerable components that make up the total environment, a careful understanding of each and the implications of the changes of each factor need to be done. This facilitates the strategic planning process. Just as a human being take decisions based on his or his surrounding environment, example: parent, siblings, peer group, teachers, role models, health, attitude, socio-econom ic status. 1.2 The Economic and Legal Environment People are willing to start new businesses if they believe that the risk of losing their money isnt too great. Part of that risk involves the economic system and how government works with or against businesses. Government can do a lot to lessen the risk of starting businesses and thus increase entrepreneurship and wealth. For example, a government can keep taxes and regulations to a minimum. Another way for government to actively promote entrepreneurship is to allow private ownership of businesses. In some countries, the government owns most businesses, and theres little incentive for people to work hard or create profit. All around the world today, however, governments are selling those businesses to private individual to create more wealth. One of the best things the governments of developing countries can do is to minimize interference with the free exchange of goods and services. 1.3 The Technological Environment Technological factors sometimes pose serious problems. A firm that unable to cope with technological changes may not be survived. Further, the differing technological environment of different markets or countries may be called for product modifications. Besides that, Technology also is the most important elements of the macro environment. Furthermore Technology is the human being innovation and it literally wonder Technology helps to human being go to the moon, travelling the spaceships, other side of the globe with few hours. Advances in the technologies have facilitated product improvements and introduction of new products and have considerably improved the marketability of the products. The fast changes in technologies also create problems for enterprises as that render. Plants and product obsolete. Today adopt changers in technology to achieve successful in business and industry. Internet and telecom system also is the important part of technological development in the world. These things today changed whole world. It changes people and business operation. It leads to many new business opportunities apart from the many existing systems. Technological environment characteristics are outlined: The find of technological change Opportunities are arising out of technological developments. Risk and uncertain is the major feature of the technological developments. Research and development role to country Technology and business activities are to be highly considerable, interrelated and interdependent. Technology output/fruits available to society through business activities in this way improve the quality of life in the society. Therefore, technology nurtured by business. 1.4 The Social Environment Demography is the statistical study of the human population with regard to its size, density, and other characteristics such as age, race, gender, and income. The particularly interested in the demographic trends that most affect business and career choices. Managing Diversity has come to mean much more than recruiting and keeping minorities and women. Many more groups are now included in diversity efforts. For example, the list of 26 diversity groups identified by Federated Department Stores includes seniors, the disable, homosexuals, atheists, extroverts, introverts, married people, singles, and the devout. 1.5 The Global Environment The global environment may affect all firms directly or indirectly. Some firm rely on foreign countries for some of their supplies or sell their products in various countries. They may even establish subsidiaries in foreign countries where they can products and sell to them. Even if a firm is not planning to sell its products in foreign countries, it must be aware of the global environment because it may face foreign competition when it sells its product locally. Furthermore, global economic conditions can affect local economic conditions. It economic condition weaken in foreign countries, the foreign demand for U.S. products will decrease. Consequently, sales by U.S. firms will decrease, and this may result in some layoffs. The general income level in the United state will decline, and U.S. consumers will have less money to spend. The demand for all products will decline, even those that are sold only in the United States. Thus, even firms that have no international business can be affected by the global environment. 1.5.1 How Global Changes Affect You As businesses expand to serve global markets, new jobs will be created in both manufacturing and service industries. U.S. exports are expected to continue to increase under new trade agreements that will lead to expansion of the job market both in the United States and globally. Global trade also means global competition. The students who will prosper are those who are prepared for the markets of tomorrow. That means that you must prepare yourself now to compete in a rapidly changing worldwide environment. Conclusion Introduction of Ownerships When entrepreneurs establish a business, they must decide on the form of business ownership. There are three basic forms of business ownership: sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. The form that is chosen can affect the profitability, risk, and value of the firm. The business ownership decision determines how the earnings of a business are distributed among the owners of the business, the degree of liability of each owner, the degree of control that each owner has in running the business, the potential return of the business, and the risk of the business. These types of decisions are necessary for all business. Sole Proprietorship A business owned by a single owner is referred to as a sole proprietorship. The owner of a sole proprietorship is called a sole proprietor. A sole proprietor may obtain loans from creditors to help finance the firms operations, but these loans do not represent ownership. The earnings generated by a sole proprietorship are considered to be personal income received by the proprietor and are subject to personal income taxes collected by the Internal Revenue Service. Characteristics of Sole Proprietors Sole proprietors must be willing to accept full responsibility for the firms performance. The pressure of this responsibility can be must greater than any employees responsibility. Besides of this, Sole proprietors must also be willing to work flexible hours. They are on call at all times and may even have to substitute for a sick employee. Other than that, their responsibility for the success of the business encourages them to continually monitor business operations. They must exhibit strong leadership skills, be well organized, and communicate skill well with employees. Many successful sole proprietors had precious work experience in the market in which they are competing, perhaps as an employee in a competitors firm. For example, restaurant managers commonly establish their own restaurant. Experience is critical to understanding the competition and the behavior of customers in a particular market. Advantages of a Sole Proprietorship Easy Organization Establishing a sole proprietorship is relatively easy. The legal requirements are minimal. A sole proprietorship need not establish a separate legal entity. The owner must register the firm with the state, which can normally be done by mail. The owner may also need to apply for an occupational license to conduct a particular type of business. The specific license requirements vary with the state and even the city where the business is located. Complete control Having only one owner with complete control of the firm eliminates the chance of conflicts during the decision on the menu, the prices, and the salaries paid to employees. Lower Taxes Because the earnings in a proprietorship are considered to be personal income, they may be subject to lower taxes than those imposed on some other forms of business ownership. Total Decision-Making Authority Because the sole proprietor is in total control of the operations, he or she can respond quickly to changes, which is an asset in a rapidly shifting market. The freedom to set the companys course of action is a major motivational force. For those who thrive on the enjoyment of seeking new proprietors thrive on the feeling of control they have over their personal financial futures and the recognition they earn as the owners of their business. Disadvantages of a Sole Proprietorship The Sole Proprietor Incurs All Losses Just as sole proprietors do not have to share the profits, they are unable to share any losses that the firm incurs. For example, assume you invest $10,000 of your funds in a lawn service and borrow an additional $8,000 that you invest in the business. Unfortunately, the revenue is barely sufficient to pay salaries to your employees, and you terminate the firm. You have not only lost all of your $10,000 investment in the firm but also are liable for $8,000 that you borrowed. Since you are the sole proprietor, no other owners are available to help cover the losses. Unlimited Liability A sole proprietor is subject to unlimited liability, which means there is no limit on the debts for which the owner is liable. If a sole proprietors is sued, the sole proprietor is personally liable for an judgment against that firm. Limited Skills A sole proprietor has limited skills and may be unable to control all parts of the business. For example, a sole proprietor may have difficulty running a large medical practice because different types of expertise may be needed. Limited Funds A sole proprietor may have limited funds available to invest in the firm. Thus, sole proprietors have difficulty engaging in airplane manufacturing, shipbuilding, computer manufacturing, and other business that require substantial funds. Sole proprietors have limited funds to support the firms expansion or to absorb temporary losses. A poorly performing firm may improve if given sufficient time. But if this firm cannot obtain additional funds to make up for its losses, it may not be able to continue in business long enough to recover. Partnership A business that is co-owned by two people or more than two people is referred to as a partnership. The co-owners of the business are called partners. The co-owners must register the partnership with the state and may need to apply for an occupation license. About 10 percent of all firms are partnerships. Besides of this, in a general partnership, all partners have unlimited liability. That is, the partners are personally liable for all obligations of the firm. Conversely, in a limited partnership, the firm has some limited partners, or partners whose liability is limited to the cash or property they contributed to the partnerships. Limited partners are only investors in the partnership and do not participate in its management, but because they have invested in the business, they share its profits or losses. A limited partnership has one or more general partners, or partners who manage the business, receive a salary, share the profits or losses of the business, and have unlimited liab ility. The earnings distributed to each partners represent personal income and are subject to personal income taxes collect by the IRS. Disadvantages of Partnerships Lack of Continuity If one partner dies, complications arise. Partnership interest is often nontransferable through inheritance because the remaining partner may not want to be in a partnership with the person who inherits the deceased partners interest. Partners can make provisions in the partnership agreement to avoid dissolution due to death if all parties agree to accept as partners those who inherit the deceaseds interest. Control is shared The decision making in a partnership must be shared. If the partners disagree about how the business should be run, business and personal relationships may be destroyed. Some owners of firms do not have the skills to manage a business. Unlimited Liability General partners in a partnership are subject to unlimited liability, just like sole proprietors. Profits Are Shared Any profits that the partnership generates must be shared among all partners. The more partners there are, the smaller the amount of a given level of profits that will be distributed to any individual partner. Conclusion Of my opinion I would like to choose Sole Proprietors, because it is better than Partnerships. Besides that, it is lower taxes because the earnings in a proprietorship are considered to be personal incomes, they may be subject to lower taxes than those imposed on some other forms of business ownership. Other than that, Sole Proprietors make us easy and quickly do decision and making authority. Because the sole proprietor is in total control of the operations, he or she can respond quickly to changes, which is an asset in a rapidly shifting market. The freedom to set the companys course of action is a major motivational force. For those who thrive on the enjoyment of seeking new proprietors thrive on the feeling of control they have over their personal financial futures and the recognition they earn as the owners of their business. Other than that, Sole proprietors is much more better than Partnerships because of Partnerships much more disadvantages then Sole Proprietors. If one partn er dies, complications arise.
